Viewers of «The Handmaid’s Tale» will return to Gilead one last time. The sixth season of the popular Hulu series, starring Elizabeth Moss as June Osborne, is expected to air soon, but fans are eagerly awaiting when that will happen. Due to production delays, many fear that the release date is in question.
Elizabeth is returning to her role, as well as her co-stars Yvonne Strahovski, Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, O-T Fagbenle, Max Minghella, Samira Wiley, Bradley Whitford, and Amanda Brugel.
The plot for the sixth season is not revealed, but it can be assumed that it will continue the events left at the end of the fifth season. Showrunner Bruce Miller told Digital Spy how the team wanted to «finish» the show «on their own terms».
«The book is so annoying at the end because it just ends», - Bruce explained. «And everyone says, 'How could you, Bruce Miller… Who are you to write further?' I say, 'Oh my God, this is all I ever wanted to do, write the rest.' Because it’s like: what happened?! Oh my God — it’s the most annoying ending».
He continued: «We have so many women in history who didn’t have names, who were never identified. They were there for a while. They told their story, and this is 'The Handmaid’s Tale' - she told it. And then they disappear, faceless, in the mist of history. And that’s the problem: too many women who are just Offred and just Handmaid. But this is the story we tell. To really make it this story, it starts when her child is taken away. And it ends when she disappears from our radar. But she doesn’t disappear from the world. She’s a real woman. Just because she’s not on our radar doesn’t mean she’s not there».
The finale of the fifth season was filled with various aspects. June learns that Toronto is not safe, especially after she is brutally hit by a driver. A graphic scene shows June’s trauma in all its glory, with all the crunching bones. June and Nicole later end up at the train station and encounter Serena and Noah.
Meanwhile, Luke is arrested for killing the man who tried to kill June, and he is thus separated from his family at the moment. Janine is also taken captive, while Nick decides to work with the United States. Rita asks Nick about his feelings for June and walks away from him
