Presley Gerber spoke about ibogaine treatment before his death
Presley Gerber shared on Instagram that he underwent an ibogaine treatment course several months before his death. This psychedelic substance is often used to combat addiction, and Presley’s struggles with drugs were well known.

Gerber passed away at a rehabilitation center on Sunday at the age of 27, and police are treating his death as a possible overdose. In March, Presley posted a video of himself standing on grass while a woman around him performed a ritual. He wrote: «The preliminary dose of ibogaine — a quiet moment before everything changed».

Presley admitted that he was «absolutely terrified» and understood that he would face this again if he ever had to go through something similar. He noted that his mantras were «love yourself» and «this has to be the last time for this reason». Gerber also shared that letting go of control was not easy, but he trusted that he was being guided by something greater.

He added: «Let's see… I pray this is the last time I need to come back. Next time I’d like to choose». Presley mentioned Cancun, Mexico, and used the hashtags #iboga #ibogaine #rewireyourbrain #loveyourself and #mentalhealth.

His mother, Cindy Crawford, commented: «You are a warrior! You went through the fire to find yourself! So proud!» His father, Rande Gerber, wrote: «I am so proud of you and your courage. Facing challenges takes real strength, and seeing you find your way back to yourself is everything. I love you so much». His sister, Kaia, added: «This is my brother, I’m so proud».

The Center for the Science of Psychedelics at the University of California, Berkeley, classifies ibogaine as a non-classical psychedelic, similar to ketamine and MDMA. The center’s website states that ibogaine is a natural psychoactive compound found in the bark of the root of the Tabernanthe iboga plant, which grows in Central and West Africa.

The experience of using ibogaine is often described as a «waking dream». Initially, users experience visual and sensory distortions, followed by a period of introspection, and report heightened awareness and disrupted sleep lasting up to seventy-two hours. In high doses, ibogaine can induce intense hallucinations. The potential of ibogaine to interrupt drug addiction was first recognized in 1962, and since then, numerous studies have shown that ibogaine can aid in treating addiction to heroin, cocaine, and opioids.
