After nearly four years of his presidency, President Joe Biden announced that he will no longer participate in the 2024 presidential elections.
On Sunday, July 21, the 46th President of the United States released a statement online for the American people, stating: «Serving as your president has been the greatest honor of my life. And while my intention was to run for a second term, I believe it is in the best interests of my party and country for me to step aside and focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president until the end of my term».
It was previously reported that Democratic party leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and his former boss, the 44th President Barack Obama, had already warned him that he was going to forego the upcoming elections, according to a source who spoke with the New York Post.
This is the third time Joe has been in office, but this time as president — first as Obama’s vice president — he worked alongside his vice president Kamala Harris to achieve change and called his time in office an overcoming of much. He wrote: «I know none of this could have been done without you, the American people. Together we have overcome a once-in-a-century pandemic and the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We have defended and preserved our democracy. And we have revived and strengthened our alliances around the world».
He continued to thank the woman in office: «So let me express my deepest gratitude to all those who worked so hard to see me re-elected. I want to thank Vice President Kamala Harris for being a superb partner in this work. And let me express my sincere thanks to the American people for the faith and trust you have placed in me.
I believe today what I have always believed: that there is nothing America cannot do — when we do it together. We just have to remember that we are the United States of America."
