President Joe Biden made a statement after his son Hunter Biden’s conviction in his illegal gun case. The President expressed his support for his son after he was found guilty on three criminal charges of gun possession on Tuesday, June 11. Although Joe continued to show love and support for his son, he did not indicate that he intends to pardon him.
After Hunter was found guilty on three charges, the President confirmed his love and support for his son. «As I said last week, I am the President, but I am also a father», - he said, according to CBS News. «Jill and I love our son, and we are proud of who he is today. Many families with loved ones struggling with addiction understand the feeling of pride, seeing someone you love come out on the other side and become so strong and resilient in rehabilitation».
Joe continued and said that he will not interfere in the legal process, but will continue to support his son. «As I also said last week, I will accept the outcome of this case and continue to respect the judicial process as Hunter considers an appeal. Jill and I will always be there for Hunter and the rest of our family with our love and support. Nothing will ever change that», - he said.
The President’s statement echoes the sentiments from the previous statement about the case, which became the first instance where the child of a sitting president was convicted of a criminal offense. Hunter was found guilty on two charges of lying on a form that asked if he had used illegal drugs when he purchased a revolver in October 2018. The third charge was for gun possession while using drugs. He faces a maximum sentence of up to 25 years, but it is unlikely that he will be sentenced to prison. The verdict was delivered almost two weeks after former President Donald Trump was found guilty on 34 criminal charges in connection with his silence case
