President Joe Biden called on Democrats to «move forward as a united party» in a new letter he shared with party members on social media on Monday, July 8. The 81-year-old president pledged to stay in the 2024 presidential race and expressed confidence that he can defeat former President Donald Trump, 78, after the June debate that sparked speculation and calls from the Democratic party to seek a new candidate. «I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, seeing it through to the end, and defeating Donald Trump», - Biden began his message.
Biden continued and said that he had «extensive conversations» with party leadership and voters, and he was aware of the concerns expressed. He also explained that he knows what is at stake in the 2024 elections and reaffirmed his belief in his ability to win. «I would not run again if I did not absolutely believe that I am the best person to defeat Donald Trump in 2024», - he wrote. «I have no doubt that I — and we — can and will defeat Donald Trump».
Biden continued and highlighted some achievements he has made during his time in office, including creating jobs, protecting affordable healthcare, passing infrastructure and environmental laws. The president also highlighted some of Trump’s positions, as well as reminded voters of the attack on the Capitol on January 6, 2021. «We are defending American democracy», - he wrote. «Trump has proven that he is unfit to ever hold the office of president. We should never allow him to come close to that office again. And we never will».
In conclusion, Biden reminded voters of the upcoming Democratic National Convention and election day, and urged voters to be more united. «Any weakening of resolve or uncertainty about the task ahead only helps Trump and harms us. It’s time to come together, move forward as a united party, and defeat Donald Trump», - he wrote
