President Joe Biden is nearing the end of his presidential term and is dedicating time to the country in the final months — from opting out of running in the upcoming elections to allowing his administration to move forward with a plan to forgive student loans, CNBC reports. A federal judge lifted a temporary restraining order on Biden’s administration plan, which could ease financial burdens for many Americans due to student debt.
«I am investing in the American agenda. We expect to create millions of jobs in the next decade. We have already created over 15 million new jobs — 15 million new jobs. And a significant number of them do not require a college education, including the state of Wisconsin», - said the 46th president, addressing the state of Wisconsin about the student loan forgiveness plan.
Learn more about the plan below.
This program is aimed at helping pay a substantial portion or the full amount of a student’s debt. At a meeting in Wisconsin in April 2024, the 81-year-old president remarked, «And overall, my administration has taken the most significant actions to provide student debt forgiveness in the history of this country. We started by fixing two existing programs so that more people could receive the student debt forgiveness they were entitled to». He added, «If we do this, the economic benefits will far outweigh the costs. And this is not hyperbole; this is the truth».
According to the Federal Student Aid website, to qualify for this plan, students must meet one of the following criteria: currently paying more than the initial loan amount, started repaying the debt many years ago, qualify for the program but have not yet applied, or enrolled in a low-cost financial aid program aimed at helping pay off debts.
