Yolanda, a former nurse, was the president and founder of Selena’s fan club and managed Selena’s boutique, Selena Etc., where she handled finances.
In 1995, Yolanda was just fired by Selena’s family after allegedly embezzling over $ 30,000 from the fan club and boutiques she managed by forging checks.
Yolanda claimed she never intended to kill Selena and bought a .38 caliber revolver with the intention of committing suicide. During her trial, her defense argued that the gun went off accidentally, hitting Selena.
In October 1995, Yolanda was found guilty of first-degree murder by a jury and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole. She is now 64 years old and still incarcerated in Gatesville, Texas, approximately 100 miles north of Austin.
In a joint statement published on their social platforms, Selena’s family and her husband, Chris Perez, expressed gratitude. «Today we are grateful to the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles for their decision to deny Yolanda Saldivar’s parole. While nothing will bring Selena back to us, this decision reaffirms that justice continues to uphold the beautiful life that was taken from us — and from millions of fans around the world — too soon», - they said
