Prince Andrew will no longer be referred to as a prince. Buckingham Palace announced that he was stripped of his royal title on October 31, 2025, leaving those unfamiliar with his connections to Jeffrey Epstein asking the same question: What did Andrew do to lose his royal title?

«Prince Andrew will now be known as Andrew Mountbatten Windsor», - the statement from Buckingham Palace, published that day, said, according to CNN. «His lease at Royal Lodge has so far provided him with legal protection for residence. An official notice to vacate the lease has now been given, and he will move to alternative private accommodation».

The palace — the home of King Charles III and Queen Camilla — added: «These reproaches are considered necessary, despite his continued denial of the allegations against him».

Buckingham Palace only stated in its statement that Andrew was stripped of his title because it was «considered necessary» and pointed out that he «continues to deny the allegations against him».

The likely reason for the palace’s choice lies in the allegations of sexual violence against Andrew by the late Virginia Giuffre and his connections to the deceased sex offender Epstein.

Giuffre accused the former Prince Andrew of sexual violence, claiming she was trafficked to him for sex by Epstein when she was 17. Giuffre further claimed that Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell forced her to have sex with Andrew several times from 2001 to 2002.

Andrew denied all of Giuffre’s allegations and claimed he never met her, despite a photo of them together emerging. Giuffre took her own life on April 25, 2025.

Andrew also claimed he was unaware of Epstein’s sex trafficking network, but admitted to staying at his properties and maintaining contact with him even after his 2008 conviction for soliciting a minor.

In 2021, Giuffre filed a civil lawsuit accusing him of sexual violence and emotional harm. The case was settled out of court in 2022, ending any legal proceedings between the parties. However, the allegations against Andrew and his connection to Epstein led to his gradual disappearance from royal duties and public appearances.

After Buckingham Palace stripped Andrew of his royal title, the Giuffre family released a statement saying: «Today, an ordinary American girl from an ordinary American family toppled a British prince with her truth and extraordinary courage».

No, Andrew is no longer married to his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson. They married in 1986 and divorced ten years later.

Yes, Andrew has two daughters, both of whom he shares with his ex-wife: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie.
