Prince Harry and Meghan Markle faced challenges from the royal family: a story about racism and tabloids

The press has always played a significant role in the life of the royal family, starting from Princess Diana and ending with Prince Harry’s relationship with Meghan Markle.
Since they stepped back from their royal duties in 2020, the couple has faced a multitude of problems caused by both the media and, presumably, senior members of the royal family. Their two children, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor and Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, did not receive their Prince and Princess titles when their grandfather King Charles III ascended the throne. Issues such as skin color arose during this period.
The 42-year-old actress told Oprah Winfrey during an interview for CBS: «In the months when I was pregnant [with Archie], around the same time, we were having the same conversation about how he won’t be given security, he won’t be given a title, and also concerns and conversations about how dark his skin might be when he’s born».
She added: «The idea of our son not being safe, as well as the idea of the first member of color in this family not being named the same way as other grandchildren. Another part of this conversation, when you’re a grandchild of the monarch — when Harry’s dad becomes king — automatically Archie and our next child will become a prince or princess… it’s also not their right to take that away».
The press exacerbated these issues, creating further chaos and contributing to many of their disagreements, as acknowledged by 39-year-old Prince Harry. During a recent interview for ITV, Harry stated: «Everything I do is for my family, it brings a lot of pain to them».
British tabloids have always targeted the royal family, and Harry hoped for his family’s support in stopping them. «I've made it very clear that we need to do this, it would be good if we did it as a family», - he told the publication. «I think everything that’s happened has shown people the truth of the situation… For me, the mission continues, but yes, it has caused some disagreements»
