Problems with Venmo: when will the platform start working again after the AWS outage?
20 october 2025 в 22:13
Venmo customers are not thrilled with the recent platform payment outage. Countless users reported issues with loading their Venmo apps on October 20, 2025, and the company addressed the situation in a statement. Now the question remains: when will the system be up and running again?
Find out below when Venmo is expected to start working again.
Apparently, Venmo users reported issues with the system as early as October 16, 2025 — four days before the AWS outage affected several online platforms. Venmo acknowledged the situation on October 20 in a message that read: «Check back soon, Venmo is currently experiencing disruption due to issues with the cloud provider of partner services. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working to restore access as soon as possible».
Apparently, Venmo — and various other online platforms and apps — are not working due to the AWS outage.
At the time of publication, Venmo users are still reporting issues accessing the app. Venmo has not provided an estimated time for the restoration of its platform. In its message on October 20, the company advised users to «check back soon».
As Amazon is still trying to «mitigate» its issue, Venmo may be unavailable or experiencing issues for much of the day on October 20. According to Graham Bragg, a computer networking expert from the University of Southampton, the situation with Amazon may continue «until the end of the day».
«The main issue is now resolved, but it will take some time to propagate across the internet», - Bragg said, according to The Independent. Amazon servers also have a delay in requests, so it is likely that we will see some disruptions for the rest of the day."
Bragg noted that on the morning of October 20 in the Eastern US region, Amazon caused significant disruptions due to a DNS issue — the «phone book» of the internet that helps computers find each other. This affected many services hosted in different regions because Amazon hosts much of its management infrastructure on which other services depend in this region. This is a significant failure due to how many companies rely on Amazon and its global impact."
PayPal owns Venmo. Despite the widespread Amazon outage causing mass confusion, the company does not manage Venmo.
Amazon found that the cause of its outage was a «major DNS issue». DNS is the domain name system: a kind of internet phone book that converts domain names to IP addresses.
«The major DNS issue has been fully resolved, and most AWS operations are now running normally», - Amazon said on one of its AWS control panels. «Some requests may be limited as we work on a complete solution. In addition, some services continue to work on catching up on events, such as Cloudtrail and Lambda».
After 1:00 pm Eastern Time, the Amazon health dashboard noted that it would continue to apply «mitigation measures for network load balancer health and restore connectivity for most AWS services»
