According to a statement released by the Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office, local police noted: «At this time, there is no evidence or confirmation of drowning, and the case is actively being investigated by American law enforcement agencies in conjunction with the Dominican national police, with support from resources here at home».
The last person who, according to assumptions, saw Konanki alive was Joshua Ribbe, who was named a person of interest but not a suspect in her disappearance. Ribbe cooperated with authorities and was questioned by the Dominican police. Ribbe claimed that he and Konanki were swimming in the ocean late at night before she disappeared on March 6, 2025. He claimed that a large wave hit them and said that the last time he saw Konanki was when she walked away from him.
On March 18, 2025, Konanki’s parents, Subbarayudu and Sreedevi Konanki, wrote a letter to authorities requesting their daughter to be declared deceased.
«The initiation [of declaring death] will allow our family to begin the grieving process and address the issues related to her absence», - the Konankis' letter read, according to multiple sources. «While no announcement can truly ease our grief, we believe that this step will bring some closure and allow us to honor her memory».

According to video of their public statement, Konanki’s father said: «Both sides of the authorities have also clarified that the person of interest was never a suspect from the beginning. … With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we accept the fact that our daughter drowned»
