Take that gin martini because A Simple Favor 2 has officially begun. Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively are reprising their roles as Stephanie and Emily, respectively. The last time we saw them was in the 2018 film A Simple Favor, where Emily was in jail and Stephanie started dating someone from town and became a part-time private detective.
Hollywood Life magazine has gathered everything you need to know about the upcoming sequel, from plot details to cast information.
According to Deadline, in the sequel Stephanie and Emily head to another country for new adventures.
«In the second part, we see the return of Stephanie Smothers and Emily Nelson as they head to the beautiful island of Capri, Italy, for Emily’s luxurious wedding to a wealthy Italian businessman», - a source reported in April 2024. «Along with glamorous guests, expect murder and betrayal at the wedding with plenty of twists and turns, more than the road from Marina Grande to Capri’s town square».
The sequel was announced in May 2022, but Amazon MGM did not give the green light to the film until March 2024.
Filming for the sequel, reportedly, will begin in the spring of 2024. It is not yet clear when the film will be released in theaters, but Amazon Prime plans to release it for streaming in more than 200 countries.
In addition to Anna and Blake, the original cast includes Henry Golding, who will reprise his role as Emily’s first husband, Sean Townsend, and Andrew Rannells as Darren. Among the returning actors are also Bashir Salahuddin, Joshua Satine, Ian Ho, and Kelly McCormack.
After the confirmation of the sequel in May 2022, Anna expressed her joy at returning to the mysterious world between Stephanie and Emily.
«I can’t wait to return to the funny, deeply dark inner world of Stephanie Smothers and reunite Stephanie and Emily under the watchful and stylish eye of the magnificent [director] Paul Feig», - Anna told Entertainment Weekly at the time.
