Five bodies were found inside a luxurious yacht that sank off the coast of Sicily, while desperate searches for the last missing passenger continue.

The 183-foot yacht «Bayesian» sank around 5 a.m. local time on Monday, August 19, after being hit by a tornado-like water spout during a storm. At the time of the yacht’s sinking, there were 22 people on board, including 12 passengers and 10 crew members.

Immediately after the incident, 15 people were rescued, according to the Italian coast guard, while a body was found near the vessel and later identified in the news as the chef Ricardo Thomas, who was declared dead on Monday.

The six missing individuals were identified as British billionaire Mike Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter Hannah, Morgan Stanley International chairman Jonathan Blumer, his wife Judy Blumer, Clifford Chance lawyer Chris Morvillo and his wife Neda Morvillo.

Lynch’s wife, Angela Bacares, was among the rescued.

The three-day search operation is complicated by the depth of the wreckage and hindrances to accessing the cabins. Firefighters described the operation as «complex», - with divers limited to 12-minute underwater shifts.

A source close to the survivors told PEOPLE magazine that the passengers on board were celebrating Lynch’s victory in a financial fraud case in the U.S. in June. «So he took his close friends and colleagues on a trip», - the source said.

Morvillo represented Lynch in the fraud case, and other employees of the firm were also on board the «Bayesian», - according to a statement from Clifford Chance, his law firm.

Danny Fortson, who interviewed Lynch after his acquittal for The Sunday Times, told PEOPLE magazine that Lynch was «shocked» to have been given a «second life».

«He was extremely excited and very grateful, but also this thing had been going on, or the charges had been going on, for over a decade», - the journalist said.

Fortson noted that Lynch initially faced more than a dozen charges that could have sent him to prison for 25 years. «Given his age and some health issues, he was very clear that he would likely die in prison in America», - the journalist said.

In a post on X, Fortson reacted to the news of Lynch’s disappearance, writing: «The terrible irony is that when we sat down last month, he emphasized that he felt he had won a new life»
