After the release of Katy Perry’s music video «Lifetimes», - an investigation began to determine whether any damage was caused to the protected dunes of S’Espalmador during filming, which, according to officials, was done without permission.
The representative of the 39-year-old singer told several publications on Wednesday that the appropriate permission was indeed obtained, stating: «We have the utmost respect for this place and the officials responsible for its protection».
«The local video production company assured us that all necessary permissions for the video were obtained. We learned that one permission was still in process, although we were given verbal permission to continue. Our local team applied for permission for this specific location to the General Directorate for Coasts and Coastlines on July 22. We received verbal approval on July 26 to continue filming on July 27».
«We followed all the rules related to filming in this area», - said a representative of Capitol Records, as reported by The Rolling Stone, The Independent, and Variety.
The Environmental Department of the Balearic Islands stated that the production company behind the video, WeOwnTheCity, did not have permission to film on site, prompting them to start an investigation on Tuesday.
«Therefore, preliminary investigative actions were initiated», - the department added. However, they clarified that Perry’s actions are not considered «environmental crimes», - but rather violations, as overall photography and filming «may be allowed» in this area.
«Lifetimes» is the second single from Perry’s upcoming seventh album 143, which is set to be released on September 20. The first single, «Woman's World», - received mixed critical reactions, particularly due to its production by Dr. Luke, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, who was sued by Kesha for sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, and emotional abuse.
The track was intended as an anthem to female strength, with visual references to Rosie the Riveter and lyrics like «This is a woman’s world, and you’re lucky to live in it»
