Ryan Garcia announced that he is «done» with boxing — at least for now. Speaking to H on Thursday, June 20, the 25-year-old athlete announced that he is stepping away from the sport.

«I will still be training, but I am hurt and done with this and everyone», - he wrote in one of his tweets. «It's sad because I’m a great boxer and entertain and knock people out. I’m sad because I [love] boxing. I pray for everyone and hope everyone has a good life».

Ryan followed this with a series of tweets that day. In one of them, he wrote: «I officially retired», - but added in a separate post: «It's all good, I’m retired, I’ll be back in a year». In a subsequent tweet, Ryan wrote: «I've already been retired, so I’m just coming out of retirement for a year».

Earlier this month, the boxer was arrested for alleged property damage at the Waldorf Astoria hotel in Beverly Hills, California. According to BBC Sport, Beverly Hills police were called to the hotel after a report of a «person in an intoxicated state».

«It was determined that Mr. Garcia was a registered guest at the hotel and caused damage to a guest room and hotel corridor», - a source said. «Hotel management requested Mr. Garcia be arrested for property damage. He was arrested and taken by the Beverly Hills Fire Department to a local hospital for medical assistance».

The arrest came weeks after Ryan tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug before his fight against Devin Haney.

Throughout his recent series of tweets, Ryan shared a statement from his team, stating that he «fell victim to contamination of a substance, levels of which were measured in billions and trillions of grams, which did not give any advantage in the ring».

«Ryan, along with his legal team, resolved this issue and firmly asserts his truth: he never intentionally took banned substances», - the statement read. «It's just not in his nature».

Additionally, the statement noted that the athlete will «continue to elevate the sport and actively engage in advocacy for reforms. We hope that future changes in our system will address such issues».
