Ryan Lochte revealed a strict rule for swimmers of the US national team while staying in the Olympic Village — to stay in the Olympic Village.

On Tuesday, August 6, the athlete’s wife, Kayla Lochte, answered fans' questions on TikTok, including a request about why some athletes were seen leaving the Village while others were not.

«What does it mean that you can’t leave the Olympic Village? I see different Olympic athletes leaving the Village», - read a question from a TikTok user, which was then repeated by Kayla, 33, to Ryan, 40, who was off-camera.

«Not American swimmers», - replied the experienced Olympian, who competed for the US national team in four Olympic Games, when Kayla clarified, «The US has stricter rules than other countries, right?»

«Yes», - confirmed the swimmer, to which Kayla asked, «But can you leave for certain things?»

«No», - said the father of three children — Caiden, 7, Liv, 5, and Georgia June, 13 months, adding that if you have a break from swimming and want to have lunch «with family», - for example, you need to get «permission from the head coach».

The 12-time Olympic medalist — six gold medals, three silver, and three bronze — competed for the US swimming team in four Olympic Games, the first of which was in Athens in 2004. He also participated in the 2008 Games in Beijing, the 2012 Games in London, and the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Lochte had previously faced issues with the Olympic Committee due to 'Lochtegate,' when he lied about being robbed at gunpoint in Rio de Janeiro during the 2016 Summer Olympics. He was given a 10-month suspension and lost over $ 1 million in sponsorship deals. It was an exaggeration to cover up a confrontation with armed security guards over alleged vandalism.

Lochte told Brazilian authorities that he and his teammates Gunnar Bentz, Jack Conger, and James Feigen were robbed at gunpoint at a gas station in Rio after a night of partying. As discrepancies in the story arose, doubts were raised.

The charge against him was ultimately dropped, and since then he has repeatedly apologized for his behavior.

But in addition to Lochte’s own clash with Olympic Committees, Brazilian swimmer Ana Carolina Vieira made headlines last week when she was sent home for leaving the Village «without permission».

Her teammate Gabriel Santos was also with her, but a representative of the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB) explained that Vieira was sent home for «aggressive and disrespectful challenges to the Technical Committee for the selection of the women’s 4×100m relay team», - in addition to her previous violation
