The 2024 US elections were marked by several notable celebrity endorsements. From Vice President Kamala Harris’s campaign to Donald Trump, several well-known personalities proudly voiced their support for the respective candidates. Most of Hollywood supported Harris, while some came out in support of Trump. But after a now debunked report claimed that Harris paid Oprah Winfrey, voters are questioning whether celebrities are paid to support politicians.

Find out everything we know about celebrity endorsements of politicians here.

Of all the celebrities who supported her, it is unclear whether they all donated to Harris’s campaign. Many stars supported the vice president, including Jennifer Lopez, Eminem, Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and several others.

The only celebrity reported by the Daily Mail to have donated to Harris’s campaign was Beyoncé. The publication reported in August 2024 that the «Freedom» singer «allocated $ 4 million for campaign donations».

Beyoncé has not publicly confirmed or denied the report.

Celebrities who publicly supported Trump included Dennis Quaid, Dr. Phil, Elon Musk, and others. According to NPR, Musk donated millions to the Republican’s campaign. In October, the Tesla founder’s political action committee spent over $ 70 million to support Trump’s re-election. By November, Musk’s PAC had spent around $ 200 million, according to the Associated Press.

In November, The Washington Examiner claimed that Harris’s team spent a «six-figure sum to set up a set for Harris’s appearance on the popular 'Call Her Daddy' podcast with host Alex Cooper» and claimed that Harris paid Harpo Productions Oprah Winfrey $ 1 million.

Additionally, a right-wing account called «Breaking911» claimed that Harris’s campaign spent around $ 20 million on celebrity endorsements.

«OH MY GOD! Kamala’s campaign spent $ 20 million buying celebrity endorsements $ 5 million on Megan Thee Stallion $ 3 million on Lizzo $ 1.8 million on Eminem $ 1 million on Oprah Paid a six-figure sum for an appearance on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast», - the account wrote on November 11, 2024.

However, Winfrey quickly debunked the rumors. According to a video published by TMZ, the TV host noted that she «never received anything» from Harris and said the rumors were «not true».

Furthermore, there was no evidence to support the claims made by either The Washington Examiner or Breaking911.

It is unclear whether Trump compensated any of his famous supporters. However, since Winfrey refuted the claim about Harris’s celebrities, it is unlikely that the Republican paid celebrities.

However, for social media content creators, it may be a different story. According to CNN, influencers are not required to «disclose whether they received payment for supporting a candidate or expressing a political opinion on their page»
