Controversial speech by Harrison Butker at the graduation ceremony at Benedictine College sparked a reaction from almost everyone, including Jason Kelsey’s wife, Kylie Kelsey. After his brother, Travis Kelsey, broke the silence on the matter in the latest episode of their podcast «New Heights», - Jason, 36, shared how Kylie reacted to Harrison’s statements.
«My wife, I think, was a little disappointed by some of the comments», - said the former Philadelphia Eagles player in the episode on Friday, May 24. «At first I said, 'You need to go back to the kitchen and make me a sandwich. I’m listening to the game right now'».
In response to his joke, Travis laughed and noted that they both «discuss difficult situations so well». Jason then joked, «I hope she didn’t hear that».
However, Jason admitted that being a father of three daughters with Kylie allows him to empathize with Harrison.
«I can listen to a person and find value in it, for example, when he talks about the importance of family and what a great mother can do», - said the retired NFL player. «When you listen to someone, you absorb what you like. You listen to other things and say, 'I don’t like this'».
As for Travis, he noted, «As for his views and what he said in his graduation speech, you know, those are his views. I can’t say that I agree with most of them — or almost any of them — except that he loves his family or his children. I don’t think I should judge him based on his views, especially his religious views on life».
The Chiefs tight end continued to describe his teammate — whom he calls «Harry» — in a positive light.
«I've known him for over seven, eight years, and I appreciate him as a teammate», - said Travis. «He treats the friends and family I introduced him to with respect and kindness, and that’s how he treats everyone».
Many athletes and celebrities have shared their reactions to Harrison’s speech, which took place earlier this month. Addressing the private Catholic college in Kansas, the Chiefs player made several statements about President Joe Biden’s policies, women’s family planning methods, and the LGBTQ+ community. His statements have sparked a huge debate on social media in recent weeks
