Dane’s family confirmed his death in February, stating that the actor, known for the series «Grey's Anatomy», - passed away at the age of 53 after battling amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). The family’s statement mentioned that he spent his final days surrounded by loved ones, including his daughters, who were the center of his world.
After Dane’s death, Gayheart marked the first Father’s Day without him and represented him at her daughter Georgia’s graduation. In her conversation with People, she spoke about how she is coping with her own grief, emphasizing the importance of connecting with friends and family.
Earlier this month, Gayheart urged Dane’s fans to support the ACT for ALS bill, which, according to her, would provide funding for ALS research and treatment. She stressed that the passage of this bill is of great significance to her family.
Gayheart and Dane were married from 2004 to 2018. Gayheart filed for divorce in February 2018 but later withdrew her petition in 2025 after Dane’s diagnosis.
