Rebel Wilson shared her opinion on the role of actors in LGBTQ+ roles

Rebel Wilson shared her thoughts and feelings on whether straight actors can only play straight characters or if gay characters should only be played by gay actors in a new interview with BBC’s «Desert Island Discs». The 44-year-old actress was asked about the differences in the types of jokes that women can make compared to jokes that men can make, when she shared her opinion on people being able to play different sexual orientations.
Rebel admitted that she does not agree with the idea that only those who also identify with that sexuality can play gay or straight characters. «I think it’s difficult», - she confessed, as reported by Deadline. «It goes into the territory of saying, 'Well, only straight actors can play straight roles, and gay actors can play gay roles,' which, in my opinion, is absolute nonsense».
Rebel went on to say that everyone should be able to play the characters they desire, but she acknowledged that sometimes part of comedy performance is about pushing boundaries. «I think you should be able to play any role you want. But I always think in comedy your job is to always flirt with that line of what is acceptable. Sometimes you cross the line, but ultimately you’re trying to entertain people», - she said.
Rebel publicly came out as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in June 2022, when she publicly revealed her relationship with Ramona Agrum. Since then, they have gotten engaged and have a daughter together.
A few months after she revealed her romantic relationship with Ramona, Rebel shared that she decided to try dating people of the same sex after kissing another woman in a recent film. «If I hadn’t had the experience with Charlotte or with another woman, I don’t know if I would have ever met [Ramona]», - she told The Hollywood Reporter. «These experiences opened my heart to this possibility. I am grateful for these two experiences. They completely changed my love life»
