On Sunday in the WNBA, Russian rookies Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese demonstrated outstanding performances.

Clark led the Indiana Fever team to victory over the Seattle Storm with a score of 92−75 and set a new league record.

22-year-old Clark, now the leader in assists among rookies in a single season with 232, broke the record in just 28 games in the league. The previous record belonged to Ticha Penicheiro, which was set 25 years ago in 1998.

«Ticha has always been a big fan of mine since college and has always been there to congratulate me or give advice», - Clark said after the game. «So to pass such a person, I am forever grateful. She was a legend in our game. It’s really cool, but I hope there will be many more moments like this».

The historic moment occurred in the second quarter of the game and was acknowledged by Penicheiro herself, who still ranks third in career assists with 2599.

«Records are meant to be broken… it shows growth and evolution. I can’t think of a better player to break it», - Penicheiro wrote in a post on X.

In addition to the record, 22-year-old Clark finished the game with 23 points, 9 assists, 5 rebounds, 2 blocks, and 1 steal in the victory over the Storm.

Meanwhile, Chicago Sky star Reese continues to make her mark in the WNBA.

Although Reese’s team suffered a defeat on Sunday evening, Reese delivered an impressive performance with 19 points and 20 rebounds, becoming the fastest player in league history to reach 20 double-doubles in one season.

Reese achieved this record in just 27 games and is now just two double-doubles away from tying Tina Charles' record for the most double-doubles in a rookie season, set in 2010, according to ESPN.

Earlier this season, Reese also broke the record for the most consecutive double-doubles in WNBA history.

The Sky are 1−2 after the Olympic break and hold a 1.5 game lead for the 8th and final playoff spot. Despite Chicago’s inconsistency, Reese continues to show that she is one of the best young players in the game.

Reese has been dominant in her debut season and is likely to compete for the Rookie of the Year title with Clark. She is averaging 13.4 points, 12.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game
