For the first time since her performance at the Olympics went viral, Australian B-girl Rachel «Reagan» Gunn sat down for an interview to discuss the overwhelming wave of criticism she received online during the 2024 Summer Olympics.

«I am truly saddened to hear this criticism, and I am very sorry for the negativity that the community is experiencing», - said 37-year-old Gunn in an interview with Australia 10 News that aired on Wednesday. «But I cannot control people’s reactions».

On her first — and possibly only — Breaking performance at the Olympics, Gunn’s performance, which she defended by saying, «All my moves are original», - puzzled viewers as she did not earn any points. She lost 18−0 in each battle against three opponents: Logan Edra (Logistics) from the USA, Dominika Banevich (Nika) from Lithuania, and Si Dembele (Sissi) from France.

When asked if she really considers herself the 'best female breaker in Australia,' Gunn — a breakdance teacher at Macquarie University in Sydney — shrugged and replied, «Well, I think my statistics speak for themselves». She pointed out that she was the «best» female breaker in Australia in 2020, 2022, and 2023. «Statistics are there, but anything can happen in a battle».

Last month, an online petition gathered over 50,000 signatures in response to unfounded accusations that Gunn, who qualified for the Olympics by winning last year’s Oceania Breaking Championships, cheated her way into the Olympics by manipulating the selection process.

«It was really hurtful because it wasn’t just people who didn’t understand breaking and were simply annoyed by my performance», - she said. «These were people attacking our reputation and honesty. And none of it was backed by facts. People still don’t believe the truth, but… I think it’s just going to be part of our reality, unfortunately».

Gunn, who has not yet returned to Australia, dismissed the accusations as «conspiracy theories», - calling them «just awful».

Earlier, Gunn addressed the criticism on social media, sharing a post on Instagram from the Australian breaking team, quoting them: «Don't be afraid to be different».

«Go out there and represent yourself», - Gunn is quoted as saying. «You never know where it will take you».

«For me, creativity is really important. I go out there and show my artistry. Sometimes it speaks to the judges, and sometimes it doesn’t. I do my job, and it represents art. That’s the essence of it», - Gunn added at a press conference on August 10, according to ESPN
