The cause of Richard Simmons' death has been revealed. The late fitness guru’s brother, Lenny, received the official coroner’s report a month after Simmons was found dead in his maid’s bed on July 13. He was 76 years old.
«This morning, Richard Simmons' brother, Lenny, received a call from the Los Angeles coroner’s office», - a representative of the Simmons family told PEOPLE magazine on Wednesday, August 21. «The coroner informed Lenny that Richard’s death was accidental due to complications from recent falls and heart disease as a contributing factor. Toxicology analysis was negative, except for medications prescribed to Richard».
The representative’s statement concluded with the words: «The family wants to thank everyone for showing love and support during this difficult period of loss».
Simmons — known for his personality in the world of fitness and health — spoke with the publication just two days before his death. He talked about how he planned to celebrate his 76th birthday, which fell on July 12.
«I feel good!» he said. «I am grateful that I am here, that I am alive for another day. I will spend my birthday doing what I do every day — helping people».
Reflecting on his career, Simmons noted that despite his outgoing public persona, he was more introverted. «I never thought of myself as a celebrity», - he admitted in a July interview.
«People don’t know this, I’m actually a shy person and a bit of an introvert», - he said in his final interview. «But when the curtain goes up, it’s a different story. I’m here to make people happy.
