Rob Lowe, in an interview with Mona Kosar Abdi for «Extra», - spoke about his new comedy «The Musical», - which he considers one of the most unusual in his career. According to him, audiences crave comedies that are breathtaking, and this film is just that.
Lowe explained the plot: he plays an ambitious school principal who has a girlfriend—a art teacher. A playwright, who is also infatuated with the teacher, tries to sabotage him so that their production does not win the award for best performance. The actor added that he cannot reveal details about the musical itself, but described it as «the most offensive and terrible subject that one could make a musical about».
Recalling his theater days, Lowe noted that he was a «theater kid», - not an athlete, and did not belong to the popular crowd. He also shared that after his role in the film «The Outsiders», - his life changed «overnight».
Additionally, Lowe mentioned two major film roles that he lost to Tom Cruise. He received scripts that, as it turned out, had already been given to Cruise; these were «Top Gun» and «Jerry Maguire». «People get the roles that are meant for them», - he added.
The film «The Musical» has already been released.
