Robert F. Kennedy Jr. admitted to placing a dead bear cub in Central Park: news 2024

Independent presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. admitted on Sunday that in 2014 he dumped a dead bear cub in Central Park in Manhattan and staged it to look like the animal had been hit by a bicycle.
The staged incident with the bicycle first made headlines in 2014. At that time, journalist The New York Times Tatiana Schlosberg — the granddaughter of former President John F. Kennedy — covered the story for the publication.
The woman was walking her dog in Central Park when she noticed the bear cub lying under the bushes, partially hidden by an abandoned bicycle. The bear cub was 6 months old and weighed 44 pounds.
On Sunday, August 4, 70-year-old Kennedy posted a video on X, in which he told the story to Rosen Barr, 71.
He noted that he decided to share this story now because The New Yorker magazine will include this incident in an upcoming article. «I look forward to how you will present it», - he wrote in his post, mentioning the magazine.
In the video, Kennedy began his explanation by saying that he and his friends picked up the animal after he saw a woman in a van hit and kill a young bear as they were driving through the Hudson Valley.
«I stopped and picked up the bear, put it in the back of my van because I was going to skin the bear», - he said. «It was in very good condition, and I was going to put the meat in my refrigerator».
He then explained that he had to attend a dinner at the Peter Luger Steak House in New York and then head to the airport, which meant he needed to get rid of the bear.
To solve his dilemma, he decided to leave the bear in Central Park with an old bicycle to create the appearance that it had been hit by a bicycle, because there were «several bicycle accidents» in New York, and he thought it was a «good idea» to stage the incident, mentioning that it was «funny».
«We thought it would be fun for whoever found it, or something like that», - he said.
«The next day it was on all the television channels», - he recalled of the story that became a headline. «I was like, 'Oh my God, what have I done?'»
«I was worried because my fingerprints were on that bicycle… Luckily, the story eventually died down», - Kennedy shared.
«This will be a bad story», - he added, referring to the proposed article in The New Yorker.
On Monday, the publication released an article titled «What does Robert F. Kennedy Jr. really want?», which includes details about the bear incident
