Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has canceled his unlikely campaign for president and expressed his support for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, causing dissatisfaction from his wife, Cheryl Hines.

Earlier this week, Kennedy and his running mate, Nicole Shanahan, hinted at this, and on Friday the news became official during an announcement made by Kennedy, 70, in the ballroom of the Renaissance hotel in downtown Phoenix.

It was previously reported that while Kennedy was negotiating a possible position in Trump’s second administration, he was also facing opposition from Hines, who had previously stated that she «really didn’t want» him to support the former president.

In a statement released shortly after RFK Jr.'s announcement, 58-year-old «Curb Your Enthusiasm» actress Hines told The Hollywood Reporter: «I would like to express my sincere, heartfelt gratitude to everyone who worked so diligently and lovingly on his campaign. They achieved feats that were said to be impossible».

«I deeply respect Bobby’s decision to run on the principle of unity. Over the past year and a half, I have met some outstanding people from all parties — Democrats, Republicans, and independents».

She added: «My experience shows that the vast majority of people from all parties are truly good people who want the best for our country and for each other. It has been an enlightening, transformative, and engaging journey».

However, Hines was candid in her disgust for Trump.

«When Trump was elected, I really had to have a serious talk with myself, because I thought, 'I won’t survive these four years,'» she said.

In a conversation that took place in December, Hines also commented on the 34 lawsuits in New York regarding Trump’s hush money case.

«Will Trump go to jail?» she asked, referring to the numerous lawsuits Trump faced. He was later found guilty on 34 charges, making him the first American president to be convicted of criminal offenses.

«Here's what I keep asking Bobby all the time: 'Can Trump be president from jail?' Bobby said, 'There's no prohibition on that in the Constitution.'

«Because who would have put that in the Constitution?» she added
