Parents arrested after their 2-year-old child wandered on the road
In Florida, parents were arrested after their two-year-old child was found wandering alone on a dark road late at night. Johnny Jean-Baptiste and Stasia McMillian are charged with child neglect without causing great bodily harm, as authorities claim the incident occurred on September 26.

According to a statement from the Osceola County Sheriff’s Office, the incident came to light when a driver called emergency services around 11:30 PM to report seeing a toddler walking alone on Jones Road near Talisi Loop. The driver stopped and ensured the child was safe.

Police reported that the child was unharmed but frightened and crying when found. Osceola County sheriff’s deputies conducted a search in the area and soon determined where the child lived with the parents. Upon entering the home, they discovered the door was open and no one was inside. Police confirmed that the child lived in the house, finding photographs and toys.

One of the deputies called Jean-Baptiste, but he allegedly hung up. The deputy continued to call until Jean-Baptiste blocked his number. Eventually, he answered and stated that he and McMillian were at a store and would return in five minutes. The couple returned home around 12:30 AM, about an hour after the driver found the child.

During questioning about their whereabouts, they allegedly refused to provide any information other than that they had a fight and went to the store. Authorities noted that both parents reportedly smelled of alcohol, and McMillian allegedly laughed during her interrogation.

Jean-Baptiste and McMillian were arrested and taken to the Osceola County Jail, where they are being held without bail. Meanwhile, police reported that a family member took custody of the child and will care for him while the parents remain in custody. It is currently unclear whether Jean-Baptiste and McMillian have made any statements or hired attorneys following their arrest. The Department of Children and Families is also investigating the incident.
