Rose McIver announced that she will be «absent» from several episodes of the sixth season of the series «Ghosts». On her Instagram on September 25, she posted a photo of a child’s hand and wrote that «observant viewers will notice that Sam is a bit absent at the beginning of this season — I’ve been a little busy, but I’ll be back with everyone soon!»
McIver thanked fans for their patience and noted that she feels happy to be able to balance two jobs. Her post seemingly confirmed that she and her husband, George Byrne, have become parents for the second time. The couple, who married in 2023, already has a daughter born in 2024. In connection with this, «Ghosts» tried to hide McIver’s pregnancy during the third season.
Showrunner Joe Wiseman stated in February 2024 that there are no plans to add children for the characters Sam and Jay in the series. He noted that this could happen in the future, but it currently seems too early for the show. Another showrunner, Joe Port, supported the idea that Sam and Jay could become parents later, adding that it would be interesting to see how the ghosts perceive parenthood.
The series «Ghosts», - which debuted on CBS in 2021, tells the story of a married couple, Sam (McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar), who inherit a country house and plan to turn it into a hotel, but after a near-death experience, Sam begins to see the ghosts living in the house.
The series is expected to return with holiday specials in 2026 before making an official return in the middle of the season. CBS announced its schedule in April, and viewers noticed significant changes. The premieres of «Ghosts», - «Matlock», - and «NCIS: Sydney» have been moved to 2027, where they will join the new show «Einstein», - which will also debut in 2027.
