Rudy Giuliani is no longer allowed to practice law in New York. The former mayor of New York had his law license revoked by the Empire State Supreme Court on Tuesday, July 2. He lost his right to practice law for attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 election with former President Donald Trump, CNN reports. Giuliani’s spokesperson called on others to speak out against this decision.
Giuliani had previously been temporarily suspended from practicing law during the court ruling. He also faces criminal charges for attempting to overturn the election, as well as several lawsuits, including one for defamation against two election officials.
In its decision, the court criticized Giuliani for all his lies and attempts to overturn the election results. «Giuliani blatantly abused his outstanding position as personal attorney to former President Trump and his campaign, through which he repeatedly and intentionally made false statements, some of which were false, to federal court, state legislators, the public, the Committee on Lawyer Oversight, and this court regarding the 2020 presidential elections, in which he groundlessly attacked and undermined the integrity of the country’s electoral process», - the decision stated.
The court also noted how Giuliani fueled the division, which became even wider in the four years since the 2020 election. They said that he «not only deliberately violated some of the most fundamental principles of the legal profession, but also actively contributed to the national discord that followed the 2020 presidential elections, for which he does not fully repent», - according to CNN.
Giuliani’s spokesperson Ted Goodman released a statement promising to fight the decision. «Members of the legal community who respect the rule of law in this country must immediately come forward and speak out against this politically and ideologically tainted decision. We will appeal this objectively erroneous decision in the hope that the appellate court will restore integrity to our justice system», - he said
