With the end of summer approaching, Spotify has summed up the season by counting the five most popular tracks that were constantly playing on the radio. From the soft vocals of Billie Eilish to the catchy melodies of Sabrina Carpenter, the list includes some of the hottest artists at the moment. Hollywood Life presents a review of the '2024 Summer Songs' from Spotify:
The track with the lyrics «Birds of a feather, we should stick together, I know / I said I never thought I’d be better off alone / Can’t change the weather, maybe never / But if it’s forever, then it’s even better» made it to the top five tracks from the latest album of the 22-year-old singer titled HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. With use in Instagram reels and over 855 million streams on the platform, Billie Eilish was popular throughout the summer season. She shared on TikTok that the song, originally about relationships, turned into a track about death.
Chappell Roan had a breakthrough summer with her song «HOT TO GO!» from her debut album in 2023 titled The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, as well as with the song «Good Luck, Babe!» Although the 26-year-old artist is just starting her journey, she has had a significant impact with a song that includes the lyrics: «H-O-T-T-O-G-O / Snap and clap, touch your toes / Raise your hands, now body roll / Dance, you’re ready to go».
Industry veteran Kendrick Lamar made it to the top five summer songs with the track «Not Like Us». The song, which mentions Drake and includes the lyrics «They're not like us, they’re not like us, they’re not like us», was released two years after his album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers in 2022.
25-year-old Sabrina Carpenter made a splash this summer with two hits from her latest album Short n' Sweet. From «Please Please Please» to «Espresso», the latter song is especially popular. The infectious song contains the lyrics: «Now he’s thinking 'bout me every night, oh / Is it so sweet? I think so / You say you can’t sleep, baby, I know / It’s my espresso». Sabrina mentioned that she was initially alone in wanting to release «Espresso». Speaking with Variety, she said: «I was completely alone in wanting to release 'Espresso'. Not a lot of doubts from my immediate team, but when it came to the 'higher-ups', there were a lot of questions about whether it made sense».
Shaboozy made a splash this summer with his hit «A Bar Song (Tipsy)», with lyrics that say: «Somebody pour me a double shot of whiskey / They know I have a history with Jack Daniels / Downtown in the fifth street district there’s a party / Everyone in the bar is getting drunk». The 29-year-old artist, who has worked with Beyoncé, shared with Variety: «Over the past few years, my mission has been the same as hers — to bring people into this space and use my voice to show people that we are here too». He also made it onto former President Barack Obama’s 2024 summer playlist
