Savannah Guthrie has temporarily stepped away from the Today show due to the ongoing search for her mother, Nancy Guthrie. The 84-year-old woman has been missing since January 31, 2026, when she was abducted by unknown individuals from her home in Tucson, Arizona. While authorities continue their investigation and urge the public to report any information, Guthrie remains off the air to support her family.
As the case develops, questions about her future on the Today show are becoming increasingly relevant. Although NBC has not made any official statements yet, reports have emerged suggesting that Savannah may not return. Nevertheless, she is not shying away from her work. The journalist gave an interview to Hoda Kotb, in which she discussed her mother’s abduction. Shortly after that, Savannah confirmed the date of her return to the show.
At the time of publication, Nancy had been missing for 54 days. Authorities have been unable to identify any potential suspects but briefly detained several individuals who are no longer in custody.
Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told The New York Times that the police are not giving up on the search for Nancy.
«It could happen in an hour. It could be weeks, months, or years. But we will not stop», - he said. «We will find Nancy. We will find that person».
According to the Pima County Sheriff, Nancy was abducted from her home against her will. Blood was found at the scene, and surveillance footage from that night showed a masked individual disabling security cameras in the Tucson home.
One insider also told the publication that the staff of the Today show «are all constantly praying» for Nancy’s case to be solved, adding, «Everyone at Today is taking this day by day and, of course, providing Savannah with the necessary support, time, and understanding»
