Cloudflare outage: what happened to X.com and other platforms? Cloudflare outage: what happened to X.com and other platforms?
If you tried to access X.com (formerly known as Twitter) this morning, you probably encountered the following message: «Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to continue». So far, most internet users have not even heard of Cloudflare, but its widespread outage on Tuesday, November 18, caused a system failure. Therefore, there are several questions hanging in the air as we wait for updates: is X still unavailable? What is Cloudflare? Which other online platforms were affected today?

The Cloudflare outage occurred a few weeks after the global catastrophe of Amazon Web Services (AWS), which caused a massive internet outage in October, affecting banks, airlines, and other important businesses for a whole day.

Below are updates on the Cloudflare outage.

Like Amazon Web Services, Cloudflare is an internet content delivery network that usually operates in the background and only becomes visible in case of problems. The American company is based in San Francisco, California.

As seen by X users, it seems that Cloudflare directly affects the social media platform owned by Elon Musk. Formerly known as Twitter, X.com crashed on Tuesday morning, November 18, with a message on the screen that read: «Something went wrong. Try reloading».

However, the Cloudflare outage also affected several other platforms, including Canva.com. When users tried to load the graphic design website, they encountered a notification that read: «Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to continue».

At the time of publication, yes, X.com — formerly Twitter — is still unavailable, and Musk has not provided a public update on the system failure.

As seen on Downdetector.com, thousands of X.com users complained that they still could not load their accounts by 8:00 a.m. Eastern Time. Around 6:00 a.m. Eastern Time, over 11,000 Twitter users reported errors when loading their accounts.

No, Cloudflare has not been fully restored at the time of publication.

According to the Cloudflare status page, the company had a message about «scheduled technical maintenance» for the airports in Atlanta and Los Angeles.

Around 13:30 UTC (8:30 a.m. Eastern Time), Cloudflare announced that it was «experiencing an internal quality of service degradation» and acknowledged that «some services may be temporarily affected».

«We are focused on restoring service», - the company explained in its statement. «We will update information as we work to resolve the issues. Further updates will follow shortly»
