Bank of America scared its customers, and many are still trying to understand what happened.
Thousands reported problems accessing their accounts on Wednesday afternoon, when the financial institution experienced a widespread outage. Many users received a «connection error» message when trying to log into the banking app. The message stated that «your request cannot be completed» and advised users to «try again later».
Users began reporting issues on DownDetector after 12 PM Eastern Time on October 2, with peak reports around 1:30 PM. Although the number of reported problems has since decreased, some users continued to experience issues into Thursday morning.

The banking giant has not yet posted anything on social media, but informed the media that the issues are «largely already resolved».
Prior to this outage, there was another one in the summer when the cybersecurity company CrowdStrike experienced a significant outage due to a faulty update.
Customers experiencing the outage turned to social media platforms like X and Reddit to confirm that they were experiencing similar issues. Many also reported difficulties in contacting Bank of America customer support.
