Electric vehicles Scout Motors are already here and almost ready to hit the roads. Car enthusiasts have been eagerly awaiting the brand’s arrival. Now that it has happened, customers have been given a glimpse of the latest Scout electric vehicles: the Traveler SUV and the Terra pickup truck. Learn more about them and Scout Motors' vision below.
The Volkswagen Group acquired the Scout brand after purchasing its original owner, Navistar International. However, Volkswagen provides financial support to Scout but does not manage it. Scout operates as an independent brand.
Scout was officially introduced to the world in 2022 when Volkswagen AG announced the creation of Scout as a brand focused on electric vehicles.
The CEO and President of Scout Motors is Volkswagen USA CEO Scott Keogh.
In 2023, Scout announced plans to produce 200,000 electric vehicles per year after building a $ 2 billion factory. Speaking from the brand’s headquarters in North Carolina in February 2024, Keogh noted that the goal was to focus on «purpose and community», - according to a Scout press release.
«We are here to celebrate the revival of an American icon and the return of jobs to America», - Keogh added. «On this land — with our hands and our technology — we will build magnificent cars».
In October 2024, Scout unveiled its new SUV called the «Traveler». Production of the Traveler will begin in 2027, along with the Terra truck. The company explained that the SUV is expected to be able to tow 700 pounds.
The Traveler SUV will also come equipped with a rear spare tire carrier and will cost less than $ 60,000. Customers will be able to hit the road in the SUV in 2028.
Like the SUV, the Terra is also expected to be available from 2028 and should cost less than $ 60,000. According to Scout, both the Terra and the SUV will have a range of 350 miles on a single charge, according to Car and Driver
