Selena Gomez may be on Instagram right now, but that doesn’t mean she should tolerate the toxicity of social media trolls. The 31-year-old star of «Only Murders in the Building» explained why she restricted access to her comments on Instagram to the public.
«I turned off all comments on my photos on Instagram only for my friends», - she said in an interview with TODAY at the Rare Beauty Mental Health Summit last week. «So, I think I created boundaries to help myself. Obviously, people are upset about it. They’re upset about everything».
Despite some apparent criticism, Selena noted that she «feels empowered by doing this, saying, 'This is just for me.'»
On Thursday, May 2, the Hulu actress shared photos from an event that was an annual event for her cosmetics company to discuss mental health.
«Our 3rd annual Mental Health Summit @rarebeauty inspired me for the next generation, filled me with hope and grateful to each of you for walking with us on this meaningful journey», - Selena captioned the Instagram carousel. «Mental health is very important to me and I feel honored that we can share this mission with the world together. Thank you to everyone who joined us and continues to use their voice for good!»
Selena has become a strong advocate for mental health issues. At the Rare Beauty event, she noted that she will «always be working on this» and added that she will «always be evolving», - according to Billboard.
«I'm not better or worse than anyone. I’m just a person, living and surviving every day», - she concluded.
Last year, Selena launched the Rare Impact Charity Fund in Hollywood, where she openly admitted that she felt «hopeless». She also noted that creating a mental health fund for her company was «probably the most important thing I’ve ever done».
«I've been struggling with my inner world for a long time and sometimes felt lost and hopeless», - she confessed at the event in October 2023. «And in 2020, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. And honestly, everything quickly changed. I gained knowledge and answers that I had been desperately seeking for so long. And understanding this obviously makes me more informed and less afraid than before»
