Selma Blair appeared in court for airplane assault case
Emotional Selma Blair, 54, appeared in court on Monday evening to plead not guilty to two counts of second-degree assault. The actress stood alongside her attorneys, dressed in jeans and a white hoodie.

Blair is accused of causing a serious disturbance on a Delta flight from Los Angeles to New York on Sunday. According to TMZ, the actress allegedly harmed two flight attendants on board the plane. Law enforcement told TMZ that after landing, Blair struck a Port Authority police officer in the head multiple times while in an ambulance en route to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital, she also allegedly assaulted a nurse, who has since filed a lawsuit against her.

According to TMZ, both assault charges are related to the police officer and the nurse. Blair may also face federal charges. The New York Daily News reports that the actress will appear in Queens criminal court, where her attorney Sean Barnes stated that Blair missed several doses of «powerful medication». Blair has multiple sclerosis, and the attorney noted that this medication helps manage her neurological symptoms.

He also pointed out that the actress hit her head on the plane and referred to her hectic work schedule prior to the incident as contributing factors to her condition. «These factors, combined with the altitude, led to a state of severe confusion and disorientation», - Barnes told the judge.

According to The Daily News, Assistant District Attorney Jared Brady told the judge that «I truly believe that the defendant’s striking of the police officer who was attempting to detain her is evidence of an intent to evade prosecution». Blair was released after posting bail set at $ 20,000. CNN reports that she is due back in court on January 19.

Regarding potential federal charges, The Daily News states that the FBI has issued Blair a notice of violation in Brooklyn federal court for a later date. She could face up to one year in prison for the alleged assaults on the plane.
