Selma Blair shared her experiences following the alleged repercussions related to her comment on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict in 2024. At an event organized by the Anti-Defamation League on October 1, the actress stated that she lost numerous professional connections: «The brands I worked with disappeared within a day. Several partnerships I had built over the years were suspended», - she noted.
According to Blair, her agency, lawyer, publicist, and social media manager also ceased their collaboration with her. «Some friends in the business quietly supported me, but most of them disappeared. And, of course, my manager, my supposed friend for 30 years, also left. I still don’t know what they were thinking. No one answered my calls», - she added.
In February 2024, Blair commented on a video defending the Jewish community following the attacks on October 7, 2023, and the subsequent military campaign by Israel and the U.S. in Gaza, which, at that time, resulted in the deaths of over 74,000 Palestinian civilians. In her comment, which was later deleted, she wrote: «Thank you very much. Deport all those supporting terrorists».
After facing criticism, her comment was deemed anti-Islamic, and Blair issued an apology. In her statement, she acknowledged that she «wrongly and unintentionally conflated Muslims with radical Islamists and fundamentalists», - which caused pain to many people. She emphasized that she respects and loves «all peace-loving communities» and expressed gratitude to her Muslim friends for their help in education and understanding.
