Close friends and relatives of Matthew Perry, according to reports, were «shocked» by the recent arrest of his personal assistant Kenneth Ivamasa in connection with a drug case linked to the actor’s death.

According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, Ivamasa began working for the «Friends» actor around June 2022 after previously working for Perry’s manager and producer Doug Chapin.

«When they brought Kenny in, they thought he would be a great fit because he had worked for Doug for many years», - the source added. «When they brought him in, it was already chaotic. Matthew was not really sober. He was in and out of sobriety, and several people were helping him take care of himself».

Ivamasa, who administered at least 27 ketamine injections to Perry five days before his death, became a trusted member of the actor’s team. «When Matthew’s previous assistant left, they didn’t hire a new one for a long time. At that time, Matthew wasn’t working, so they needed someone just to manage his life and affairs at home».

«Kenny presented himself as an honest person» (According to his LinkedIn profile, Ivamasa described himself as a «discreet» and «loyal» person who «appreciates chaotic situations» and maintains «absolute confidentiality»).

«Kenny knew the situation and could handle Matthew».

An accidental drug overdose — from which, according to the autopsy report, Perry died from acute effects of ketamine — was the cause of the investigation that led to the arrest of five individuals, as announced by the Department of Justice on August 15.

The suspects included doctors Salvador Plasencia and Mark Chavez, accused drug dealer Jasvin Sanghu, Perry’s personal assistant Ivamasa, and Eric Fleming, an acquaintance of the actor. All five were charged with conspiracy to distribute ketamine and face maximum penalties ranging from 10 years to life imprisonment.

Matthew Perry’s stepfather, Keith Morrison, also spoke out about the network of people who deceived the actor, expressing gratitude to those who worked on the investigation.

«We were and continue to be saddened by Matthew’s death, but it helped us to know that law enforcement took his case very seriously», - said the 77-year-old «Dateline» correspondent. «We hope that justice will prevail».

Morrison continued: «We hope that unscrupulous suppliers of dangerous drugs will get the message».

The Los Angeles Police Department stated in May that they were working with the US Drug Enforcement Administration and the US Postal Inspection Service to investigate a large amount of surgical anesthesia in Perry’s system, especially considering that the actor’s last session of ketamine infusion therapy for anxiety and depression was a week and a half before his death at the age of 54
