Caroline Levitt’s family feels the full weight of Donald Trump’s harsh immigration policy. On November 26, 2025, news emerged that the mother of Caroline’s nephew, Bruna Ferreira, had been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Caroline’s nephew, Michael Levitt Jr., is 11 years old, and his mother, Bruna, moved from Brazil to the US as a child in the 1990s.
At the time of publication, Caroline had not yet expressed her opinion on Bruna’s ICE detention.
Find out everything we know at the moment about the situation with Caroline’s nephew’s mother and her ICE arrest.
As previously noted, Michael Levitt Jr.'s mother is Bruna Ferreira, a 33-year-old resident of the Boston area. She was in a relationship with Caroline’s brother, Michael Levitt Sr., and they are raising their son Michael Jr. together. The former couple was engaged and shares custody of their son, according to CNN.
No, Caroline and Bruna have not communicated for many years. In a statement to The Guardian, a source familiar with the situation from the White House said that Bruna «is the mother of Caroline’s nephew, and they have not communicated for many years. The child has been living in New Hampshire with his father since birth. He has never lived with his mother».
Bruna’s lawyer, Todd Pomerleau, told CNN that she was arrested by ICE on November 12, 2025. On that day, she left her home to pick up her son from school in New Hampshire. Her car was «suddenly surrounded» by ICE agents, as reported by the Boston Globe. She is currently in an ICE facility in Louisiana.
Bruna’s sister, Graziela Dos Santos Rodrigues, told the Globe that ICE agents «were not very gentle with her» and allegedly demanded her name and driver’s license, but Bruna did not have identification.
«I'm sure my sister was horrified, in a panic», - Graziela said. «She's been here since she was 6. She’s more American than anything else. I’m sure she tried to use everything she could think of at the moment. However, it didn’t help much».
Graziela created a GoFundMe page to help with Bruna’s legal expenses to fight the ICE arrest. At the time of publication, the page had raised nearly $ 20,000.
The GoFundMe page description reads: «My family is going through one of the most difficult moments in our lives, and we are reaching out with a humble request for help. My sister, Bruna, was recently detained by immigration and is now fighting to stay in the country she has called home for almost her entire life. Bruna was brought to the United States by our parents in December 1998 when she was just a child, entering on a visa. Since then, she has done everything possible to build a stable, honest life here. She maintained her legal status through DACA, met all requirements, and always strived to do the right thing».
A Department of Homeland Security representative confirmed Bruna’s arrest in a statement, as reported by The Guardian.
«ICE arrested Bruna Caroline Ferreira, a criminal illegal immigrant from Brazil», - the statement read. «She had a previous arrest for battery. She entered the US on a B2 tourist visa, which required her departure from the US by June 6, 1999. She is currently at the ICE processing center in southern Louisiana and is in the process of deportation».
The representative added: «Under President Trump and Secretary [Kristi] Noem, all illegal immigrants in the United States are subject to deportation».
In a separate statement, also reported by The Guardian, Trisha McLaughlin, a Department of Homeland Security representative, claimed that Bruna had a «previous arrest for battery», - which Bruna’s lawyer denied.
«We deny that she has any convictions», - the lawyer told CNN. «She is not a 'criminal illegal immigrant'». During a separate interview with ABC station WCVB, Todd added: «Bruna has no convictions at all»
