Garth Brooks recently faced criticism after allegations of sexual violence and rape were made by a former makeup artist and hairstylist on Thursday, October 3, 2024. Although the 62-year-old singer denies the accusations, it is claimed that the incidents occurred during his current marriage to Trisha Yearwood, who has not expressed her opinion on the matter. Additionally, his first wife, Sandy Mahl, whom many may forget, has also not shared her thoughts on her ex-husband. Before Garth released his debut album in 1989 and became one of the hottest names in country music, he married his first wife, Sandy. They met when Garth was working as a bouncer at a bar during his time at Oklahoma State University, and he had to break up a fight in which Sandy was involved. They got married in 1986 and lived together for 13 years before divorcing in 1999. Over a year later, the couple announced they would be divorcing and officially filed for divorce in November 2000. The divorce was finalized in December 2001.

Sandy is the mother of Garth’s three daughters: Taylor (1992), August (1994), and Allie (1996).

Sandy worked as a songwriter while she was with Garth, but now lives in Oklahoma, where she helped found Wild Heart Ranch, an animal rehabilitation center. «Sandy helped found and fund a non-profit organization so it could expand and become a 24-hour center for all types of animals and situations», - reads the description on the center’s website. Her official title is wildlife rehabilitator, vice president, and co-founder.

Sandy has remained single since her split with Garth almost 20 years ago. Meanwhile, Garth married Trisha in 2005. «I was married to Sandy for 13 months when I met Trisha», - Garth recently admitted. «When someone asked what I thought when I met her, I said, 'I felt like I met my wife,' which sounds strange, right? If we had gotten married then, either the career wouldn’t have been what it was in the '90s, or our marriage wouldn’t have lasted. So I have to believe that things happen in their own time. I feel very lucky where I am now».

Sandy survived breast cancer after being diagnosed in 2006.
