A 36-year-old Sergio Galvez Perez was arrested in California, allegedly for raping his 14-year-old daughter, after a stillborn baby girl was found in Mexico, according to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities reported that during a rescue operation involving the FBI, Perez was apprehended in Mexico when drugs were discovered in his possession. Monterey County Sheriff Tina Nieto stated that the girl is currently in the care of local authorities in Mexico and is safe.
Perez’s arrest came after the body of a newborn girl, believed to have been born to his daughter, was found on August 1 in Monterey County. The investigation revealed that the girl had left the infant on the side of the road. Arrest warrants were issued for both Perez and his daughter, who has been charged with murder.
Sheriff Nieto noted that the infant’s life was «tragically taken» and emphasized that the teenager is a victim of sexual violence by her father. The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office has not yet decided whether to file charges against the 14-year-old girl.
The girl’s mother, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, has also been charged with child endangerment but was released on bail. It is currently unclear whether Perez or Ortega have legal representation. The sheriff’s office announced that a press conference will be held to discuss additional details regarding the girl’s rescue and Perez’s arrest in Mexico. The investigation is ongoing.
