Serena Williams accused a Parisian hotel and restaurant of denying her and her family access to their establishment. The 42-year-old tennis player wrote directly on Twitter to The Peninsula Paris on Monday, August 5th: «Wow @peninsulaparis, denied access to the rooftop to eat at an empty restaurant in nicer areas, but never with kids. Always a first time. #Olympic2024». Now the French establishment has responded to her statement.
«In response to Mrs. Williams' tweet, whom we greatly respect and value, as well as all of our esteemed guests, we can only reiterate our sincerest apologies for her perception of the situation this evening», - The Peninsula responded in a statement obtained by Us Weekly. «The hotel continued, adding that on August 5th their 'rooftop bar was indeed fully booked, and the only available tables at that time belonged to our fine dining restaurant L’Oiseau Blanc, which was also fully booked this evening».
In the conclusion of The Peninsula’s statement, they insisted that Serena «has always been and will always be more than welcome with her family at The Peninsula».
In a subsequent message, The Peninsula responded to Serena’s tweet, emphasizing that their bar was fully booked.
«Dear Mrs. Williams, please accept our sincerest apologies for the disappointment you experienced this evening», - the establishment added.
Serena made a trip to Paris with her husband, Alexis Ohanian, and their daughters, Olympia and Adira, to support the US team at the Olympic Games. Over the past few weeks, the family has been seen in the stands at several events, including the men’s volleyball quarterfinals, men’s singles gold medal match, and women’s gymnastics team final.
Recently, Alexis, 41, showed his support for the US team by donating thousands of dollars to Veronica Fraley. The 24-year-old Olympic discus thrower shared that she was struggling to pay rent, and Flavor Flav and Alexis helped her out.
«I compete in the Olympics TOMORROW and can’t even afford rent», - Veronica wrote on August 1st. «My school only sent about 75% of my rent, while they pay football players (who haven’t won anything) enough to buy new cars and houses».
Just a few hours after her post went viral on the internet, Alexis posted a screenshot of the amount he sent her: $ 7,760
