Martin Singer spoke out for the first time about the death of her sister Michelle and her husband Robert Reiner, who were found dead in December 2025. In an interview given on September 28, she noted that their lives have changed forever, adding, «I believe you can heal from the wound, but the scar remains. It’s really hard to describe because it never goes away».
Singer shared that Michelle and Robert were «absolutely incredible together» during their 36 years of marriage. She emphasized that each family member copes with grief in their own way and expressed her closeness to her sister’s children, saying, «I can never be my sister, but I consider them my children. There is no distance between us».
Robert and Michelle Reiner were found dead in their home at the ages of 70 and 78, respectively. Their son Nick, who had mental health issues and substance abuse problems, was arrested and charged with their murder. In February, Nick pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder. This week, it was revealed that the prosecution does not plan to seek the death penalty for Nick. Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman stated that the maximum punishment Nick could face is life in prison without the possibility of parole.
In recent months, following the death of their parents, Jake and Romi Reiner have been trying to honor their parents' legacy. In an essay published on his Substack in April, Jake wrote that nothing can prepare one for the loss of both parents at the same time, adding that it is «too devastating to comprehend».
