Season three of Invincible: a balance between seriousness and humor

The third season of the series «Invincible» has finally been released. And according to the creator of the series, Robert Kirkman, the third season was a balancing act between lightness and seriousness. «It's difficult», - he admitted in an interview with Collider published on February 4th. «We definitely want to convey a sense of gravity to you, so you know that anyone can die at any time, and that the stakes in the show are real, but it’s a bit of a tricky balance to make sure the show doesn’t become relentlessly dark».

«Invincible» is an adult animated series about superheroes, based on Kirkman, Cory Walker, and Ryan Ottley’s comics. It tells the adventures of teenager Mark Grayson, who faces problems related to his father (Nolan) being a superhero. After his 17th birthday, the astonished teenager realizes that he also has some superpowers. Nolan helps him master these abilities, but as they grow closer, Mark realizes that his father may not be who he always thought he was. «Everything changes when Mark is forced to confront his past and future, realizing how far he will have to go to protect those he loves», - says the Amazon logo. The first eight episodes were released from March to April 2021, and Amazon immediately renewed it for second and third seasons.
And while it follows the well-established superhero genre, in an interview with Variety on February 4th, Kirkman opened up about his feelings regarding the widespread concept of «superhero fatigue», - which refers to the saturation of superhero content in pop culture. «I don’t think superhero fatigue is a real thing, but I think the superhero genre has become so prevalent that it has reached a point where it is no longer fresh and new», - he told the publication. «You can’t just be a superhero show and not have anything special, because I think the novelty has worn off. But it really excites me because now it means that everyone is so familiar with superheroes that you can move in interesting directions».
The third season of «Invincible» will debut on Prime Video on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Just log into your account with your credentials to watch the first three episodes today. After that, episodes will be released weekly on Thursdays until March 13.
