Shaquille O’Neal: «I don’t play games when it comes to taking care of myself»

When it comes to self-care, Shaquille O’Neal doesn’t joke around. During a recent episode of «The Big Podcast with Shaq», - the NBA legend shared his love for regular pedicures.
«I spend about $ 1000 because I know my feet stink», - said Shaq, 52, via Sports Center. «I know they’re ugly, and I like to paint them. I paint that shit because it’s ugly, and I want it to look pretty».
The former Los Angeles Lakers player said he first painted his nails because of a suggestion from his mother, Lucille O’Neal.
«A true story — once I ripped a toenail off, and I wasn’t going to play in the game», - he recalled. «I said I ripped my toenail off, and [my mom] did something, and then she put red polish on it, and I scored 40 in that game. So I thought, you know, I’ll just start painting my nails».
When asked what color he prefers on his nails, Shaq made it clear that he’s not afraid to experiment and go beyond the usual designs. «I like the glitter and designs and all that», - he said, «just to make it look pretty because I have ugly, stinky feet».
This is not the first time Shaq has shared his love for pedicures. During an appearance on Good Morning America in 2019, the sports analyst received foot care live on air from hosts Michael Strahan and Sara Haines.
When Sara, 46, saw her guest’s bright nails, Shaq explained the origin of his ritual. «Once I had a toe injury, and my daughters were young», - he explained. «They were playing with daddy. They painted my nails, and I had a good game, so it became part of my ritual. And it helps my feet look a little better».
That same year, he documented a trip to a beauty salon where he enjoyed a day at a fish spa in Las Vegas. «The experience was amazing», - he wrote on Instagram, «and the fish loved my feet at the Fashion Show Mall».
Shaq is not the only famous guy who loves to take care of his nails. Vanderpump Rules star Tom Sandoval often paints his nails on the Bravo channel show. Additionally, footballer Caleb Williams recently showed off his well-groomed nails at the 2024 NFL Draft. One nail was painted silver to match his girlfriend Alina Tregub’s silver dress
