Shiloh Jolie is no longer Pitt after she was officially allowed to drop her father’s surname.
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt’s daughter filed documents in a Los Angeles court to drop her father’s surname from her legal name on her 18th birthday in May.
According to court documents obtained by Page Six, the judge approved the name change — from Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt to Shiloh Nouvel Jolie — on Monday morning.
As part of the legal name change process in the state of California, a petition must be published in a newspaper. Shiloh published her announcement in the Los Angeles Times, with ads running on June 17, June 24, July 1, and July 8.
It was previously reported that Shiloh used her own money and hired a lawyer to file the petition herself, according to a new report from E! News.
«Shiloh hired her own lawyer and paid for it herself, so Angelina does not know and cannot comment on this», - a source told Entertainment Tonight.
Shiloh’s name change hearing was initially scheduled for July but was postponed because the court had not completed the necessary background check on time.
«It's normal. Everyone who files for a name change needs to undergo a background check conducted by the court clerk, and due to an error in the documents, Shiloh’s hearing was rescheduled for a new date», - said Shiloh’s lawyer Peter Levin.
Together, Brad, 60, and Angelina, 48, raised six children: Maddox, 22, Pax, 20, Zahara, 19, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox, both 15.
Brad and Angelina were married from 2014 to 2016. Their divorce was officially finalized in 2019, but after the split, they entered into a contentious legal battle over their joint ventures and custody of the children. During the marriage, Angelina also included her then-husband's surname in hers, but she dropped it after the split. Shiloh is not the only one of their children to drop the «Fight Club» star’s surname. Reports say that Zahara used only «Jolie» when introducing herself in her college sorority during her sophomore year, and Vivienne used only her mother’s surname in the program for the Broadway show «Outcast».
During their messy divorce, the «Maleficent» star accused Brad of violence in court documents, citing an alleged incident in 2016 on a plane. She accused him of pushing her into a bathroom wall and «striking the plane’s ceiling multiple times». She also claimed that he «grabbed [her] head and shook» and «choked one of their children and hit another».
Brad denied the allegations. «Brad has taken responsibility for what he did, but he will not take responsibility for what he did not do. These new allegations are absolutely false», - his representative told CNN at the time
