Sheinelle Jones: reason for absence on Today show and concern of fans Sheinelle Jones: reason for absence on Today show and concern of fans
Shenell Jones’s energy was dull on the «Today» show, and fans were concerned about the star’s health. Find out everything that happened below!

Yes, Shenell is still on the «Today» show. However, she is taking a break from the airwaves for a while due to personal reasons that were not disclosed. In January 2025, she addressed her followers on Instagram, where she wrote: «Hello everyone. I sincerely thank all of you who reached out to me while I was off the air. I want to share with you that I am taking time to deal with a family health issue. I am aware of how lucky I am to have the support not only of my family from the „Today“ show, but also all of you. Your kindness means a lot to me. See you soon. Love, Shenell».

In 2020, Shenell underwent a one-hour operation on her vocal cords. The operation removed a polyp that was in the television star’s throat, affecting her ability to speak. She decided to have the surgery because in her everyday life she had to do vocal exercises 30 minutes before work to not «sound hoarse», - as she previously told People.

After a successful operation, Shenell took to social media to share: «I just wanted you to know that I’m okay, and thank you for all your messages and prayers. Apparently, I woke up from anesthesia, 'talking'… I was out of it… I just remember a male voice, kindly and firmly telling me, 'please stop talking'. At the time, I was trying to tell them that I was 'awake' and not to use the breathing tube yet lol, but obviously they had already finished».

Shenell was emotionally exhausted after the operation, she expressed in a long Instagram post: «When I was left alone in post-rehab… I started crying through the oxygen mask. The nurse came running and gave me a pen to write down what happened. Honestly, nothing was wrong. I think it was just a release… it was long awaited and I fought so hard for it. I also felt surrounded by prayers… it was such a powerful moment».

After the operation, the TV host underwent 6 weeks of recovery, with 2 of them including a ban on talking.

Shenell is married to her husband, Uche Odje, and the lovebirds met at Northwestern University. Shenell openly shared on the «Today» show: «I can’t even believe I’m admitting this — I was his tour guide when he was a high school student. I thought, 'what a kind, polite, nice guy'».

Shenell and Uche are raising three children together — Kayin, 14, and twins Clara and Uche, 12
