Sharon Stone urged Sydney Sweeney to take responsibility for the ad
Sharon Stone commented on the controversial sports betting advertisement featuring Sydney Sweeney, urging her former co-star from the series «Euphoria» to «take responsibility» for the criticism. In an interview with People on September 23, Stone stated, «I think it’s up to her — to take responsibility for her actions, not for me to judge her for them». She added that her role is to support women who have succeeded in sports.

Sweeney, who is a new strategic partner and shareholder of Novig, made headlines this month when the advertising campaign showed her posing nude against a backdrop of sports equipment, including baseball, hockey, football, and tennis. The photos sparked criticism on social media for «rolling back women 100 years». So far, Sweeney has not commented on this criticism.

In a statement about the advertisement, Sweeney said, «The concept is simple: break through the noise and focus solely on sports». She added that the campaign embodies this idea with confidence, humor, and a playful spirit. Stone, in turn, expressed understanding of others' discontent, noting, «We cannot diminish women’s sports to attract men’s attention so they can place bets».

This is not the first time Stone has discussed Sweeney after she found herself in the spotlight. In September, the «Basic Instinct» actress humorously talked about Sweeney’s storyline in the third season of «Euphoria», - which led to her character undressing several times. Stone mentioned that she tried to convince Sweeney’s character to quit her job as a webcam model and join her project «L.A. Nights», - but that did not happen.

Despite ongoing discussions about her decision to frequently appear nude in the series, Sweeney remains unfazed. In March, she stated, «I grew up with breasts. I wore a 32DD in sixth grade and never felt confident. I just wanted to hide. Only when I played Cassie in 'Euphoria' did I start to realize that being confident is actually powerful; our bodies are incredible. We should embrace them and feel good in our skin».
