During a press conference on August 6, a few hours after the shooting, it was announced that the shooter at Fort Stewart was 28-year-old Sergeant Cornelius Radford. The victims, shot by the suspect, were Radford’s colleagues, said Brigadier General John Lucas, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division and Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, at the press conference.
«The shooting took place at the soldier’s workplace», - Lucas told reporters. «His colleagues were involved. We are still unsure of the motives».
Lucas also confirmed that surrounding soldiers at Fort Stewart who witnessed the incident «immediately and without hesitation subdued the soldier».
