Sean «Diddy» Combs was recently arrested in New York. After a grand jury indictment, the rapper was detained by police at the Park Hyatt hotel in Manhattan. Although the charges against him are still unclear, Combs had previously been under investigation for human trafficking earlier this year. For more detailed information on the charges against Diddy, his arrest, and the grand jury indictment, keep reading.
Combs was arrested on Monday, September 16. According to NBC News, Diddy was not expecting the arrest at that moment.
At the time of the publication of the grand jury indictment, which served as the basis for Diddy’s arrest, remains sealed. However, Damian Williams, the federal prosecutor for the Southern District of New York, noted that the district expects the «unsealing of the indictment in the morning and will have more information at that time». Therefore, charges against Diddy are likely to be revealed on Tuesday, September 17.
In response to his client’s arrest, Diddy’s lawyer Mark Agnifilo released a statement to several sources, calling Combs' arrest «an unfair prosecution» by the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Additionally, Agnifilo claimed that Diddy was expecting the charges and «voluntarily» moved to New York to await them.
«Sean 'Diddy' Combs is a music icon, a self-made entrepreneur, a loving family man, and a proven philanthropist who has built an empire over the last 30 years, adoring his children and working to support the Black community», - the statement read. «He is an imperfect man, but not a criminal. In his defense, Mr. Combs was nothing but cooperative with this investigation and voluntarily moved to New York last week in anticipation of these charges».
The lawyer concluded the statement, saying, «Please refrain from judgment until you have all the facts. These are the actions of an innocent man with nothing to hide, and he looks forward to the opportunity to clear his name in court».
According to multiple sources, Diddy was arrested by federal agents in New York during his arrest.
As the latest grand jury indictment is still sealed, the charges against the rapper are unknown. However, he has previously been accused of sexual assault, assault, and many other charges by several people, including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura. Although they settled the matter out of court, this year a video surfaced with surveillance footage showing Diddy assaulting and dragging Ventura in 2016.
In response, Diddy posted a video on Instagram, acknowledging that his behavior in the recording was «inexcusable».
«It's so hard to revisit the darkest moments of your life, but sometimes you have to. I was appalled», - Combs admitted. «I wanted to bury myself — but I’m not looking for excuses. My behavior in that video is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. It’s disgusting to me. It was disgusting then when I did it. It’s disgusting now».
In March, security agents raided Combs' properties in Los Angeles and Miami. According to NBC News, a source stated at the time that «three women and a man were questioned by federal officials in Manhattan in connection with allegations of sex trafficking, sexual assault, and the procurement and distribution of illegal drugs and weapons».
Shortly before the raids, Combs' lawyer Aaron Dyer called the investigation «an unprecedented ambush — accompanied by an advanced, coordinated media presence».
«There have been no findings of criminal or civil liability on these allegations», - Dyer added. «Mr. Combs is innocent and will continue to fight every day to clear his name».
